The Riverside International Friendship Gardens will be truly international during Riverfest as they receive visitors from some of La Crosse’s sister cities.
At noon Sunday, July 2, the German delegation from Friedberg will be visiting the gardens for a tour. The public is welcome.
At 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, there will be a dedication ceremony at the gardens. The mayors of Epinal, France, and
La Crosse will plant imported French roses in the newly planted French Garden, which was completed Wednesday, according to master gardener Marilyn Rebarchek.
“We are still waiting for the remainder of the hedging plants to arrive, including
19 Junipers,” she said. “But for the most part it is complete. The three-tiered granite fountain was installed and it is up and running during the day.”
The city has spread bark mulch over the garden and carved stone benches are expected to be installed today.
Since there will be weeding and other maintenance to do in the garden beds, volunteers are still needed. The next work day is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8.
